The Garden City
The Toowoomba Regional Council has a strong family focus providing residents with a safe community supported by a stable economy that offers a wide variety of employment opportunities.
Toowoomba’s stable economy and continual growth are attributed to its strategic location as the gateway to the west of the Great Dividing Range.
The city sits on top of the Great Dividing Range at the intersection of three major highways, the New England, Warrego and Gore Highways. This location is central to the growth occurring in South East Queensland. Toowoomba is the administrative capital of the Surat Basin mining region and the agricultural centre for the rich farming land in the Darling Downs.
To give you an idea of why this is so important, the Surat Basin has over $80 billion in infrastructure spending currently underway and the Darling Downs accounts for nearly 30% of Queensland’s Agricultural output, approximately $10 billion, and employs 20% of the state’s farm workers.
Toowoomba is known as the Garden City, with over 150 public parks and gardens and it is home to Australia’s largest annual Flower Show, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, now in its 64th year.
